THE EFL has released the key dates for Swindon Town supporters’ diaries ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Swindon’s 2022-23 campaign ended on May 8 with a 2-1 victory over Scott Lindsey’s Crawley Town, who were already safe from relegation, and a 10th-place finish.

Due to the League Two play-offs currently ongoing, all but one of the Robins’ opponents for next term have been finalised. One of Salford City, Carlisle United, Stockport County, and Bradford City will be promoted into the third tier while the rest will have to prepare themselves for another crack next year.

In the National League play-off final, Notts County’s penalty shoot-out victory over Chesterfield at Wembley Stadium on Saturday confirmed their promotion into the EFL alongside Wrexham.

Luke Williams’ men were relegated at the County Ground back in 2019, but the former Swindon head coach masterminded the Magpies’ extraordinary return.

Forest Green Rovers’ relegation from League One returns a genuine local derby to the calendar, while trips to Milton Keynes Dons, Accrington Stanley, and Morecambe will also be on the agenda for Mike Flynn’s men.

The fixture list will be released at 9am on Thursday, June 22 and the league campaign will begin on Saturday, August 5 for clubs in the Championship, League One and League Two.

The EFL Trophy will begin during the week commencing September 4, and the final will take place on Sunday, April 7 at Wembley Stadium.

Swindon last reached the showpiece event in 2012 under Paolo Di Canio when they lost 2-0 to Chesterfield – the same year the two sides traded places in League One and Two, respectively.

Next season’s League Two play-off final will have an earlier date of Sunday, May 19 – one day after the League One version – while the Championship play-off final will feature a week later on Sunday, May 26.

Other notable dates include the first round of the Carabao Cup, which is scheduled for the week of August 7.
