MAY is the time of year when released and retained lists are published by clubs up and down the Football League.
With Swindon Town's initial squad expected to be revealed in the coming days, Adver Sport has rounded up the known contract length of every senior member in Mike Flynn's squad.
2023 - Cian Harries, Mathieu Baudry, George McEachran (with one-year option), Jonny Williams, Charlie Austin, Rushian Hepburn-Murphy (with one-year option), Marcel Lavinier (with one-year option), Tom Brewitt (with one-year option after X number of games, Mo Dabre, Harry Parsons, Morgan Roberts, Oscar Massey, Jack Copland, George Cowmeadow.
Defenders Cian Harries and Mathieu Baudry top the list of most-likely departures after neither made many appearances last season due to injury.
Baudry had previously toyed with the idea of retiring anyway, while a recent Instagram post suggested his time at Swindon is up regardless.
McEachran has more than likely done enough to earn an extension to his current Swindon deal. He is exactly the sort of player Flynn would love to work with, and it seems the 22-year-old will be around for at least six more months.
I would hope Hepburn-Murphy will be given the chance to stay after a strong second half of the season. I fear the chances of Williams pulling on a Town shirt next season are quite slim, while Austin's future is likely to depend on the player's own wishes. My feeling is he stays for another year.
LOAN - Sol Brynn, Ciaran Brennan, Joe Tomlinson (with option to buy), Dylan Kadji, Luke Jephcott.
Brynn, Brennan, Kadji, and Jephcott will almost certainly be thanked and waved back to their parent clubs after varying levels of success in Wiltshire.
Despite Tomlinson's (and the fans') desire for the former Wroughton Juniors player to stick around, the financial package involved means a deal is currently out of the question. Should Posh go up to the Championship, and the numbers change, that could allow Tomlinson to come back for a third spell.
2024 - Ellis Iandolo, Frazer Blake-Tracy, Tom Clayton, Reece Devine, Remeao Hutton, Harrison Minturn, Ronan Darcy, Tyrese Shade, Tomi Adeloye, Saidou Khan.
Although they have another year left anyway, Town would be wise to try and extend the contracts of Frazer Blake-Tracy and Tom Clayton by at least one more season. Meanwhile, I would not be surprised to see Iandolo, Hutton, Darcy, Shade, and Adeloye moved on through mutual consent or via a sale.
2025 - Ricky Aguiar, Jake Cain, Anton Dworzak, Conor Brann.
Next season has to be Aguiar’s time if he is to blossom at Swindon. He was overlooked by Jody Morris, and he just didn't perform under Scott Lindsey.
Cain looks to be a solid midfield player for the future and showed glimpses of his ability in the final few games. Dworzak recently signed his first pro deal with the club. Town have always felt Brann's potential was worth investing in, hence the long-term deal.
2026 - Jacob Wakeling.
After a strong start and a mammoth new contract, Wakeling tailed off in the middle of the season before enjoying a mini resurgence towards the end of the campaign. He played far more than most thought he would, but hopefully that experience allows him to play a key role in a more successful season for his team in 2023-24.
