SWINDON Town have announced five pre-season friendly matches ahead of the upcoming 2023-24 campaign.
Mike Flynn’s men will take on teams from across Wiltshire and the EFL as they step up preparations for the new League Two season and knit together a new-look squad.
Currently, Swindon Supermarine will be the Robins’ opening opponents with Town heading to the Webbswood Stadium on Wednesday, July 5 for a 7:45pm kick-off.
Lee Spalding’s men narrowly missed out on a play-off place in Southern League Premier South last term and will be looking to go one better in 23-24 by reaching National League South.
Flynn’s men will then travel to Oakfield Stadium to take on Melksham Town on Saturday, July 8. Kick-off in west Wiltshire is at 3pm, and tickets for that game are already on sale.
Melksham – managed by former Chippenham Town boss Mark Collier – will once again play in Southern League Division One South after a 12th-place finish last term, two spots below Wiltshire rivals Westbury United.
Fresh from a season which almost produced a fairy-tale ending, Corsham Town will welcome Swindon to the Southbank on Tuesday, July 11 – 7:30pm kick-off.
The Quarrymen reached the FA Vase semi-final before losing on penalties to eventual winners Ascot United.
Kieran Baggs’ men also finished just shy of the promotion places in the Hellenic League Premier Division.
And on Tuesday, July 18, Swindon are set for a double header. Town will play Championship Bristol City in a behind-closed-doors friendly at 12:30pm before facing National League North Hereford in front of fans at Edgar Street at 7:30pm.
The last time Town played Bristol City was in 2015, with the Ashton Gate club winning 3-0 on home soil on their way to the League One title. Prior to that, Swindon had gone 10 competitive matches unbeaten against their local rivals.
Meanwhile, Hereford will be gearing up for another year in National League North, but now under the stewardship of two-time league winner with Swindon, Paul Caddis.
The Scot only took over at Edgar Street at the start of May, and will hope to mastermind a victory over his former employer as the Bulls ready themselves for the new season.
More dates are expected to be announced by Swindon in the coming weeks as the club fills out its pre-season calendar prior to starting League Two on Saturday, August 5.
