A TOTAL of 15 young athletes from Swindon Harriers have been selected to represent Wiltshire at the South West Schools’ Championships in Exeter on Saturday.
With others like Ella Spencer, Fletcher Hart, Oakley Hogan and Lucy Bull in line for a place in the Gloucestershire squad, the club will be well represented at the regional event which will be used to confirm final selections ahead of the English Schools’ Championships in Birmingham next month.
“It is great to see and very encouraging,” said coaching co-ordinator Bryan Clinton.
“We are becoming a more rounded and bigger club competing across all events and age groups, and that is a reflection on all the hard work being done by the volunteers at the club.”
Laila-Jae Belgrave led the gold medal charge for the club at the Wiltshire Schools Track and Field Championships last Saturday, winning both the inter girls’ 100m and 80m hurdles in personal best times of 12.8secs and 12.2secs, respectively.
Older sister Delleah Belgrave didn’t miss out as she soared to a PB of 5.78m to win the senior girls’ long jump.
There was also a championship record throw of 39.95m from Holly Scott to win the junior girls hammer as well as winning silver in the 75m hurdles.
Amelia Rievers smashed her PB to win the junior's javelin with a throw of 27.57m and Ellie Pyper added a huge 15cm to her best as she cleared 2.15m to win the junior pole vault title.
Lottie Harding also hit top form as she improved from 1.15m to 1.30m to win the minor girls’ high jump title and go equal sixth in the South West U13 rankings.
