SWINDON Town have been drawn away to Peterborough United in the first round of the League Cup.
Town - who famously won the competition back in 1969 - must see off the League One side if they are to reach the second round for the first time since 2014.
The last time the Robins were involved in the second-round draw, a narrow success over Luton Town booked Town a clash with Brighton and Hove Albion.
Swindon fell 4-2 to the Seagulls on home soil, a year after they reached the third round and lost 2-0 to Chelsea.
Posh v Town will be played in the week commencing August 7, days after both teams begin their respective league campaigns.
Swindon travel to Colchester United while Peterborough face Reading at the Select Car Leasing Stadium - formerly the Madejski.
Last season, a youthful Swindon went out in the first round away at Walsall following a 2-0 defeat. Town's youngsters played well for most of the contest until Harrison Minturn's late red card allowed Danny Johnson to give Walsall the lead from the spot. Timmy Abraham then scored a minute later to seal the Robins' fate against Mike Flynn's Saddlers.
Meanwhile, United saw off Plymouth Argyle by two goals to nil in round one last term before falling 1-0 away at then-League Two Stevenage.
The prize for winning this season is a potential away tie against Tottenham Hotspur or Chelsea.
The 12 teams not competing in Europe next season arrive into the competition at the second-round stage, while the eight sides with European fixtures on their schedule enter the domestic competition in the third round.
