SWINDON Town Women have announced the signings of Ellie Strippel and Sophie Greenslade on two-year contracts, as they bolster their squad ahead of the upcoming 2023/24 campaign.
Midfielder Strippel, spent last season playing for fellow Division One South West team, Portishead Town, and has had spells at Bridgewater United, Yeovil Town and Bristol City.
The 22-year-old arrives with an exciting pedigree, being named FA Women’s National League Division One Player of the Year last season.
The second player added to the ranks is 16-year-old Sophie Greenslade, who also spent last season at Portishead.
At such a young age, the defender has already gained valuable experience at adult football level, and spent four years at Gloucestershire ACC.
Speaking to the Swindon’s media team, Town’s Women’s Manager, Mike Cook said:
“I’m also delighted to have Ellie [Strippel] on board for the 2023/24 campaign and I’m really excited to start working with her over the next couple of weeks.”
“For 16-years-old, Sophie [Greenslade] is a young defender and has got a lot of ability on the ball and with her height and physicality will prove difficult for opposing teams this season.”
Following the announcement, both players shared their thoughts upon signing for the Wiltshire club.
Strippel said: “I’ve heard really good things about the club prior to signing and I’m really looking forward to starting the season. I had some great conversations with the Manager [Mike Cook] and he was really keen to get me on board for this season.”
“I felt like it was a no brainer to move to Swindon to really push myself after a great campaign last season with Portishead.
“I knew Annie Colston, before signing here and she has been so welcoming, and all of the girls have made me feel at home straight away.”
Greenslade said: “Joining Swindon Town feels like a massive opportunity for me to reach my full potential and I’m really excited to get going.
“All of the conversations I’ve had with Mike [Cook] has really helped, as he has a wealth of experience and I really trust he’ll do the very best for me.”
Both signings could feature in Swindon Town Women’s upcoming friendly against Wolves Women at Foundation Park this Sunday.
