SWINDON Town’s latest signing Liam Kinsella has said he cannot wait to kick off the 2023/24 League Two campaign with his new club.
The 27-year-old made his debut on Saturday in Town’s 3-1 pre-season friendly win against Plymouth Argyle, making a brief cameo in the second-half.
Speaking after his side's pre-season victory, the former Walsall midfielder admitted how impressed he was of his team's performance in their final friendly of the summer.
He said: “I’m absolutely delighted [to be here]. I started training on Monday with the boys. I’m glad to get it signed over the line so I can kick on and look forward to the year.
“The lads have been outstanding all week and I think you’ve seen the talent which they’ve got today as well, especially in the second-half, we could have scored five or six near the end.
"It was my first time seeing the players in an actual game, and I thought they were outstanding.
“I’ve arrived late, but you can see all the players are building into what the gaffer and Hats [Wayne Hatswell] want from them.

“The talent is there, and I think you see we made it very hard for Plymouth today. It’s a great result and were going to work hard all this week now and take it to Colchester away next Saturday."
The addition of Kinsella brings a different dimension to Town’s midfield, operating in a more defensive role.
He will also be bringing a wealth of experience, having made over 200 senior appearances - something he thinks can be used to his advantage.
He said: “Playing quite a few games now in League One and Two, I’d like to be an experienced head in there. I like to put a tackle in, I like to win the ball back, give it to the boys, get forward and help them score as many goals as possible.
“This summer was right for me to experience something new. Obviously, I’ve been at Walsall my whole career and I wanted to go out there and try something different.
When a fantastic club like Swindon were interested, I was absolutely buzzing.”
Meanwhile, Flynn’s relationship with his former player appeared to have played a role in the midfielder opting for a move to Wiltshire.
Kinsella said: “Being at Walsall together, we get on really well. The amount of hard work they [Flynn and Hatswell] put in, they’re winners.
“We had been speaking for most of the summer, I called the gaffer and we spoke about everything.
"He said: "come in and train and I'll see what I can do" and thankfully he offered me a contract this week.
"I can't wait to get going."
