SWINDON'S Max Cook is preparing for round seven of the British Superbikes Championships this weekend at the UK’s fastest circuit, Thruxton.
In the 2022 season, Cook raced in the Junior Superstock Championship where he was crowned champion, and that earned him a spot in the top class this year.
However, by the 20-year-old's own admission, it was a huge jump for the Swindon racer and something he is still getting used to.
Cook said: “It’s halfway through the year so I’m getting used to things now, but this year is quite a big jump for me.
“I’ve moved up around three championships to the top of British superbikes, which to put into context is kind of like the Premier League in football.
“It was a pretty unheard-of move in the sport, and a lot of people were doubting me, but I’m starting to prove them wrong now.”
The BSB rookie has proved himself and his race craft to all critics so far this season, securing 10 points hauls as well as a first top-ten finish last time out at Brands Hatch.
Due to the jump from 600CC to 1000CC being so big, Cook mentioned that he felt round one was an ‘eye opener’ at Silverstone back in April.
But with now being in round seven of the championships, Cook feels like he has fully settled into life as a BSB rider.
He said: “I’d say I have settled in now, yeah, especially with my good run of form in the last two rounds.
“Looking back at Silverstone in April, that was really overwhelming and a huge eye opener, as the track time was way more than what I was used to last year.
“I’ve never hit the tracks this fast before either, even though I’ve ridden all of them before.
"Some are quite sketchy, some have jumps in them and some have blind crests, so your bike just wants to wheelie all the time.
“Also, the level has gone up too, as I was racing in the Junior Superstock class. Not only has the bike level gone up but the competition too, these are some of the best riders, so it’s been like a double jump.”
Cook will be looking to add more points to his tally already this weekend, and hope to move up in the championship standings.
