SWINDON Supermarine continued their poor start to the season after losing 4-2 against Walton and Hersham in Southern League Premier South on Saturday.
Lee Spalding’s men twice took the lead on their travels but allowed a second-half collapse to decimate all their good work before the break.
Another four goals against takes Marine’s goals conceded tally to 11 in just two matches.
The afternoon began so promisingly for the Spitfires after Henry Spalding fired in from outside the box in the sixth minute.
Walton equalised around the half-hour mark when goalkeeper Charlie Searle was adjudged to have brought down Trae Cook-Appiah in the area and Harry Mills converted from the spot.
Marine responded with aplomb, though, and could have scored twice before half-time through Levi Irving, if not for excellent saves by Liam Allen.
Nevertheless, Supermarine did manage to re-take the lead when new signing Ed Williams – who last season featured for Chippenham Town – lobbed the goalkeeper from range following a mix-up in the Swans’ defence.
Spalding’s men held the advantage until the final 20 minutes, at which point, Walton began their comeback in some style as a deep cross was headed into the far corner from near the by-line by Stefan Ilic.
Cook-Appiah bundled home in the 86th minute to put the Swans ahead, and John Gilbert struck in stoppage time to seal the result for Walton and Hersham.
Elsewhere, Highworth Town secured another win in the Hellenic League Premier Division thanks to a 2-1 success at home to Mangotsfield United.
The Worthians went in front early on when Tom Griffiths burst into the area and struck his shot against the post. The rebound fell to Josh Davies, who slammed home from 12 yards.
Highworth survived a strong penalty shout in the 52nd minute before being awarded a set-piece of their own moments later. Luckily for United, Sol Pryce thrashed the spot kick high and wide.
Pryce made up for his error shortly after when nodding down to Luke Whelan who added his third goal of the week midway through the second half.
Mangotsfield pulled a goal back late on after Steve Roberts had thumped the post down the other end just moments prior – James White beat Connor Johns with a curling shot from the edge of the box to set up a nervy finish, but the Worthians held on.
Elsewhere, Royal Wootton Bassett Town came from behind to beat Slimbridge 2-1 at the Sustain Stadium on Saturday thanks to goals from Matt Jones and Tommy Ouldridge.
Sam Collier’s men were behind at the break after Jones missed his first penalty of the day and George Neill struck for the Gloucestershire club.
But Ouldridge’s perfectly-placed header, plus a successful second spot-kick for Jones and a red card for Slimbridge’s Ben Prictor, helped Bassett claim victory in their first league game.
