SWINDON’S Charlie Nesbitt suffered a trio of DNF races during round eight of the British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park.
Having enjoyed a solid start to his debut campaign, Nesbitt fell off his MasterMac Honda by Hawk Racing three times across the weekend and picked up a minor ankle injury as a result.
And a miserable weekend was summed up when the teenager’s only other race that didn’t end up in a fall was curtailed due to a mechanical issue.
A year on from Nesbitt’s first time on a Superbike at Cadwell – and following on from an amazing weekend at Thruxton – the Swindon racer was looking forward to following up his points haul with another at the tight and twisting circuit of Cadwell Park.
Friday evening’s first practice showed signs of promise for Nesbitt – with the teenage talent ending 12th before moving up into ninth into FP2 on Saturday morning. An achievement which gave him a straight pass into Superpole on Sunday.
On Sunday, FP3 and FP4 were short sessions, but Nesbitt once again improved his position within the rankings, ending in sixth place. But from that point on, Nesbitt was in store for a disappointing couple of days.
A crash at the end of FP4 saw him land badly and end up in a support boot on his right ankle.
And after starting in 15th for race one, Nesbitt passed a couple of rivals before sliding off on a slower corner – ending his first attempt at points.
His second race was ended by mechanical gremlins on lap eight, while race three was curtailed by another bad crash at the bottom of the mountain on lap seven.
The plastic boot was back on Nesbitt, but the teenager is already focused on returning at Oulton Park in a few weeks’ time.
Speaking afterwards, he said: “Not the ideal weekend for us, but it could have been much worse. I should be back fighting at Oulton Park.
“The team have been amazing rebuilding the bike each time I needed it sorting. Onwards to Oulton and fighting to get that amazing feeling of being on the podium again.”
