Holly Scott’s new club record in the under 15 girls’ hammer was one of the highlights of a record-breaking Swindon Harriers Open meeting on Sunday.
Scott beat the UK No 1 Evie Cooper from Wales to win the competition with a personal best of 45.62m to go fifth in the national rankings.
“I have been throwing 45 metres in training so I knew it would come at some point,” said Scott. “I would still like to throw 46/47 metres by the end of the season.”
Phoebe Oliver (U15) also had a good competition improving her PB to 32.15m with Evie Wilkins throwing a PB of 31.05m. Lottie Harding, who broke the club’s U13s club record with 30.72m at Yeovil on Saturday, added another solid effort of 29.86m.
Also in the hammer and proudly wearing his Harriers vest Harry Ricketts claimed the scalp of Chippenham-based GB junior international Owen Merrett.
“We were absolutely delighted with the turn-out, not just in numbers but also quality,” said meeting organiser John Dill.
“We were aiming for 300 entries and got 370 which is a record for an Open meeting. It was fantastic.”
Also in the throws Laila-Jae Belgrave smashed her PB to win the shot with 10.59m adding over a metre on her previous best. She also ran a PB of 12.09secs in the 80m hurdles.
Katie New improved her PB in the javelin with 33.19 while in the discus U17 Oliver Armstrong-Froom smashed his PB by over six metres with an effort of 28.01m.
Teenage pole vaulter Christopher James broke his PB for the fourth time this summer improving from 2.90m to 3.11m to go fourth in the South West U17 Rankings. Behind U17 Sophie Bath cleared 2.71m while M50 veteran Matthew Prosser soared to another PB of 2.61m.
On the track there were numerous top performances but one that caught the eye was from Isaac McAdam.
Firstly, he chased home clubmate Simon Byrne (1:55.87) in the 800m claiming a PB of 1:56.95 and finally beating his 2021 PB of 1:58.00 and then later romped to victory in the 1500m (4:11.62).
The 800m races – all seven of them - attracted a super entry from within the club and further afield with a terrific effort from U20 runner Josh Burns, who smashed his 2021 PB of 2:14.00 with 2:06.94 for fifth.
There were also three 1500m races and from the club’s talented group of under 13 runners there were personal bests for Jesse Bryant (4:54.96), Dylan Necrews (5:00.19), Olly Hughes (5:000.73) and Charissa Griffiths-Clack (5:21.29).
In the sprints Emmanul Daramola claimed the club honours with a time of 11.62secs in second place in the A race followed by Kristain Cupid (11.82secs) and Tye Leo-Stroud (11.86secs).
Al Virgilio was very close to his PB of 52.68secs in winning the 400m with 52.86secs while Alex Martin continued his comeback with victory in the 300m clocking a PB of 37.41secs.
