Michael Flynn said that the 2-2 draw against ten-man Morecambe definitely fell more into the two points dropped category.
Swindon Town twice led courtesy of Dan Kemp and a Charlie Austin penalty, but Jake Taylor and Ethan Walker’s goals meant they had to settle for the solitary point at the Mazuma Stadium.
Flynn said that Swindon played some lovely football during the game, but the fighting spirit from the Shrimps to go right until the end saw them have to settle for a point.
He said: “It is two points dropped when you look back on it because we were in complete control, we had some unbelievable chances, and on another day we do score five again.
“But this is a difficult place to come, Morecambe are never going to give up, because Derek Adams' teams are never going to do that.
“They kept fighting to the end and they will be happy with that point.
“Some of the football we played today was unbelievable. It was very exciting and fluent football and these players deserve a lot of credit for having the confidence and the mentality to keep playing like that.
“I have asked them to do that and you might get something like the clearance for the second goal, but that is fine and it is more about the game management.”
Flynn said that Town took their foot off the gas after scoring the second goal, failing to stick away the chances that they created, and that allowed Morecambe to find their late equaliser.
He said: “We just needed to kill the game off, it is one of them, everybody misses chances and I will never ever have a go at somebody for missing a chance.
“Everybody wants to score the goal and see the net move, so nobody does this on purpose and it is unfortunate.
“Today we have come away with a point because of that, but the two goals that we conceded will need some looking at.
“It is their prerogative [to make five substitutions at once], I am not going to use that as an excuse, because it can unsettle them as well.
“Their subs have worked for them and ours haven’t quite paid off today, but that is nothing against Rushian [Hepburn-Murphy], and Tyrese [Shade], and obviously Jake [Cain] was late on.
“But like I said, if we had taken our chances then it is game over.”
