Stats have shown that Swindon Town would be second in League Two if games had ended at half-time.

Swindon presently have the worst form in League Two, being the only side not to have won any of their last six matches, but things could have been very different if games were just 45 minutes long.

Despite sitting just 11th in the fourth tier having won just once in their last nine games, Town are in automatic promotion form based on their first-half performances, with only Stockport County having been in better positions at the break.

Swindon have been struggling for squad depth this season and were missing seven players for their draw with Harrogate Town on Saturday, having only one outfielder with more than 50 EFL appearances on the bench.

Only once this season have Swindon gone on to win a game that they were not leading at half-time, the 2-1 win at Forest Green Rovers, but they have ended up dropping points five times after going into the dressing room with their noses ahead.

Town were ahead after 45 minutes against Crewe Alexandra and Wrexham AFC, but they have also held half-time leads in each of their last three matches but have only ended up taking one point after the final whistle.

Against Colchester United and Harrogate goals from Jake Young had Swindon 1-0 up on the road and it was Dan Kemp’s goal which had Town in the lead against Stockport County, but on each occasion, they were unable to hold onto that advantage.

No other team in the top 16 in League Two have conceded more goals than Swindon this season, and the defence has been particularly leaky as games draw on, conceding 21 of their 32 goals in the second half of matches, only Notts County, Colchester, and Sutton United have let in more.
