Michael Flynn lamented the inconsistency of his squad in executing the finer details of the game across the season so far.

In a performance the Swindon Town boss referred to as “the worst we have been all season”, Swindon were demolished 4-0 by AFC Wimbledon. Omar Bugiel tapped home from close range to give the hosts an early lead before Ali Al Hamadi bagged a late brace.

But it was the way his side defended for the Dons’ second goal that particularly irritated Flynn as Swindon were slow to react before Armani Little sent the ball into the top corner from outside the area.

It is the small details of performances going wrong that Flynn said has prevented his side from finding any consistency this season.

He said: “There is no consistency at the minute. When we are good, we are very good, and when we are not there is no in-between.

“We have managed to make it easier for the opposition than it needs to be.

“The second goal is not good enough, not one person sensed the danger of Little, and then he goes and punishes you by putting it in the top corner from 25 yards.

“They need to read the game and understand certain situations better.

“Those details are [what prevents us from gaining consistency], when you are doing the small things week in, week out, day in, day out right then that is when you become a permanent force.

“At the minute we are hit and miss.”

Flynn added that if the players continued to not show signs of improvement in these areas, then he would be forced to find replacements for them.

He said: “You can show them [what to do], you can do things on the pitch and off the pitch, try all the different types of learning.

“But if they consistently don’t do it then you are to look at changing the players.

“Ultimately at the minute we are conceding too many goals, but that doesn’t mean we just need a centre-back or a right-back.

“It might be a midfielder who reads the game when we are out of possession.

“We have just got to dig in and work for each other; we have been on the back of some good performances and good results.

“Let’s hope it hurts them this evening and we work hard next week to try and put it right.”
