New Swindon Town striker Aaron Drinan believes having a positive mindset is the key to being successful at SN1.

A career highlight for the forward was scoring 13 goals in League Two for Leyton Orient in the 2021/2022 season and the Irishman discussed ideas that will help him recapture that form.

“Number one is staying positive mentally and staying in the games when things aren’t going to plan as a striker.

“You can sort of drift away from those kind of things when you’re not involved as much and just keep making the runs and keep getting in the box.

“I’m a positive person so I believe goals will eventually come back and obviously that will help the team.”

Drinan confirmed himself that his deal will keep him at Town until the summer of 2025 and he explained how Gavin Gunning was a big reason to why he came to Wiltshire.

“I’ve played here a couple of times with Orient, obviously.

“And the gaffer was keen, I think when he first came in he tried to make contact to see if I was available.

“Orient were initially like ‘No, you’re staying’ and then towards the end of it they made more contact and I suppose when a manager wants you and anytime I’ve played here it’s been a good atmosphere, the pitch is always good and overall it’s a very good club to be at.”

Last season Leyton Orient won promotion to League One under former Swindon manager Richie Wellens and the 25-year-old discussed life under the successful coach.

“I can only speak highly of him; I think he helped me quite a lot and we obviously we won a promotion together.

“He’s a demanding manager but very very good and I enjoyed working under him.”

He picked up an injury just before switching London for Swindon and he’s still working his way towards full fitness as the defeat against MK Dons was his first start under Gunning.

“I’m getting there, obviously I came in here off the back of an injury so minutes were limited before that for two to three months.

“The last few games were building it up slowly and then today to be in from the start is always good because I want to be starting every game and playing as much as I can.

“So I think this time we have to take it easy but I’m getting there.”

It has not been long since Drinan signed for the Robins on deadline day but he’s enjoying every moment of it so far.

“I’ve only been here two weeks and we’ve had four games.

“I think there’s a lot of positives around the club, I think everyone’s happy with the way we’re trying to play and the gaffer’s been great.

“He’s trying to implement his style of play to us and I think it’s really only a matter of time before we start picking up a run of results.”
