Gavin Gunning has predicted a big future for Sean McGurk at Swindon Town after he scored his second goal for the club against Tranmere Rovers.

The 20-year-old arrived from Leeds United on Deadline Day and has already found the back of the net twice in three starts, getting his second with a fantastic fake shot to beat the defender before dispatching at the near post.

Gunning said that this is just the beginning for McGurk and that there is a lot more to come from him when he actually reaches full fitness.

He said: “He [McGurk] is quality. He has got so much to learn, but he has got so much quality to go with it.

“I think that he is going to be a big coup for the club.

“I think that anyone who has seen him play will have been impressed and he is still not even fit yet.

“The scary thing is going to be when we actually get him fit because he is actually nowhere near fit enough to where he wants to be.

“When he gets fit he is going to be a proper problem.

“His talent isn’t the coachable thing, it is the positioning with a player like him and showing him where he needs to be.

“The talent is the talent, that is what he has got. He is a talented boy. He needs coaching on positional play and where he needs to be and where he can improve there to be in the right position earlier to use his potential.”

Gunning felt the attacking performances from a number of his squad were very impressive and were sure to restore confidence into a side that had been struggling for results and use it to help spur them on into Saturday’s home match with Harrogate Town.

He said: “I think we probably could have scored a few more, our decision-making wasn’t fantastic when we got in there at times.

“We utilised what we had, we had Rushian [Hepburn-Murphy] in pockets of space and he terrorised the left-back all night.

“But there is no point in winning one game and then falling asleep, it is a waste of time, we have got to push through to Saturday now with Harrogate coming here.

“They are going to come here and we are going to have to get on the front foot again and get after them.”
