Gavin Gunning said that everyone at Swindon Town will need to “show what they are about” when they take on Barrow AFC on Saturday.
Town head to Cumbria this weekend off the back of yet another abject display against Sutton United on Easter Monday as they were comfortably seen off by the side desperately battling against relegation.
Gunning said that he fully accepts all of the criticism his team have been receiving from fans in recent weeks and believes that everyone will need to show their true colours at Holker Street this weekend.
He said: “It is what it is and everyone is frustrated at the minute, I get that 100 per cent and we can only apologise for the performance on Monday.
“It wasn’t acceptable. Us as a whole, as a group, as a coaching staff, and as a playing staff none of it was acceptable.
“I just think that we need to show – players, staff, everyone – what we are about on Saturday and we have to go out there and give it everything.
“You have got to implement it and show that, show that it means something to you, these games are important to your career, you have got to remember that.
“You only get to play for so long, it is gone like that, done, your career, so every time you get on the pitch, show it.”
Gunning said that he is hoping that Swindon will begin to implement the high standards that will be needed for success moving forward, something which he feels has been one of his main takeaways from his time in interim charge.
He said: “It has been a good learning curve for myself, I have learned massively about characters and players and what is needed to be successful at League Two level.
“It is tough when you have been in a losing environment to try and change that, maybe if like in the Salford game when we threw it away, if you win those games, you can go on a big run but because you concede late you still have that doubt in your own mind.
“I have been there in dressing room when things like that happen, and it seeps in, and you go back to habit.
“You can seep into looking for excuses and players can do that too, but as a player, you have to own everything yourself.”
