Nnamdi Ofoborh said that even he did not think he would be able to play 90 minutes for Swindon Town so soon after their 2-0 win over Barrow AFC.
The former Rangers midfielder joined Swindon less than two weeks ago following three years without a professional match and leaving Ibrox last summer.
He was since handed his debut as an 85th-minute substitute against Notts County, before playing just under an hour in his first start against Sutton United and then from start to finish against Barrow with Gavin Gunning describing him as “the best player on the pitch.”
Ofoborh said following victory in Cumbria that he was incredibly thankful to those at Swindon for giving him the opportunity to get back into the game.
Speaking to club media, he said: “I am just grateful to God, it has been a long journey and a tough time, but today was a great day.
“I think this [the win] is exactly what we deserve based on our performance today, I thought we could have got a lot more but we will take that into next week.
“We have got to keep going, we have a good group here, so hopefully we can build on that and finish the season well.
“I didn’t think I would even be starting back-to-back games this soon, but I am just thankful to God and thankful to the coaching staff that trusted in me and the players are helping me get through these games, so hopefully we can keep going from this.”
220 away supporters made the 498-mile round trip from Swindon to Barrow for the game and were rewarded with a rare away victory, just Town’s third of the season and first on a Saturday.
Playing in his third game for Town, Ofoborh was very impressed by the travelling support from Swindon that had made that lengthy trip to Cumbria.
He said: “We just need to do what we need to do, today was a long trip and the fans came a long way.
“We knew what it meant to them and we knew what it meant to us, so we had to get the job done and hopefully next week we can continue that.
“They [the fans] were with us from start to finish, I will be honest, I didn’t expect there to be that many of them, but nonetheless we are so grateful and thank you to the fans.”
