The new Swindon Town Supporters Trust intend to be firmer with the club and be more communicative when transgressions occur.
Last week, the Trust published a statement outlining the focus of the now board and in it they outlined a number of things about which they intended to “encourage” change within the club.
Giving further details of their position to the Adver, new Vice Chair James Phipps said that the Trust would be firmer with the club than they have been before and be vocal to supporters were the club to step beyond their “lines.”
He said: “What we have tried to do is to say that these are the lines we want you to know. For example, one of the things that has been picked up is the rent clause that is in there.
“To be really clear, the club have always paid within the 30-day period of the new policy, they have always paid that and they are up-to-date on their rent payments.
“In standard commercial credit terms, you get given 30 days and the payments have always been within that standard period of time.
“It was just a way of us saying to the club that we will remain a friend, but we will also be that critical friend and coming into the close season when we know money is tight if you think there’s an availability of having flexibility then there is not.
“What we are saying is, what we deem as a late payment, i.e. outside of the 30 days, we will tell the media on 31 days.
“If they plan on doing something, we don’t know that and we haven’t heard that, but we know the club have been struggling for cash, the rent is not something we see as negotiable because that is not the agreement we walked into.
“We also will be encouraging Clem to be open and honest in communication, because there have been multiple scenarios in this season when the club haven’t been open and honest.
“I can’t force somebody to give honesty, but what we can say is that if you are not honest and it is clear you are not honest then you are going to be challenged by The Trust on that.
“If you break the rules, which you did both with HMRC and the Football League, etcetera, then that is not going to go unanswered by The Trust.”
