Gavin Gunning said that Swindon Town must push on from their Barrow AFC victory and gain momentum to finish the season.
Town have had a wretched campaign in which form and consistency have proved elusive but did pick up a morale-boosting win against Barrow last time out.
That victory saw Swindon secure mathematical safety in League Two for another year, meaning that their remaining matches will have no bearing on which division they play their football in next season and so there is the opportunity to experiment with the team.
The interim head coach said that they must take the confidence boost from defeating a side competing at the top end of the table in the Bluebirds last time out and make a run to finish the season.
He said: “It has not been the best of seasons, but you have got to give the young lads a chance to see if they are ready for men’s football, you don’t want to throw them in at the deep end and let them sink, but I think that some of them are probably ready.
“Some of the other lads have got to get minutes like some of them who played today were fantastic.
“I think it is really good for us [to have secured our status in League Two], people were getting a bit jittery and panicky, which is fine.
“Hopefully now we can put the next four results together and get four wins and hopefully we will see that.
“No one is proud of how we have done this season, the first eight games are a million miles away now, but now we have just got to bounce and be consistent going towards next season.”
Town commence their post-survival end to the season this Saturday against AFC Wimbledon at the County Ground, who remain in the playoff chase in League Two, before visiting Walsall and Grimsby Town and then finishing the season at home against Morecambe on the final weekend in April.
Left wing-back Williams Kokolo netted his first goal for the club against Barrow and he concurred with Gunning and said that the players were hoping to put a run together to end the season.
He said: “I think we need to go and get three points in the next game, it is a big game against Wimbledon and go about winning the next game and the next game."
