Gavin Gunning has explained his reasoning behind leaving Sean McGurk out of the squad for Swindon Town’s last two games.
McGurk made a quick start to life at Swindon as he netted two goals in his first three starts for the club but has since struggled to hit the same heights.
The 21-year-old has not seen the pitch in any of Town’s last four matches and was left out of the squad altogether against AFC Wimbledon and Walsall.
After the late defeat at the Poundland Bescot Stadium, Gunning was asked why Harry McKirdy and McGurk had not been involved with the squad, and the interim head coach revealed that McKirdy had been dealing with a niggle but the decision to leave McGurk out was “just tactical”.
When asked what he meant by that, the 33-year-old said the recent change in shape had been behind his recent exclusions.
He said: “It is nothing, we identify who is probably going to come off in the game and with the way we are playing at the minute, we have changed and gone two upfront.
“He might come back into the squad for the next game but that is up to him to work hard and get back in.”
