Interim head coach Gavin Gunning has made his case for why he thinks he deserves to be given the Swindon Town job permanently for next season.
The 33-year-old has had 17 games in charge of Swindon after taking over following the departure of Michael Flynn in January but has only managed four wins in that time.
Gunning started well with a victory over Bradford City in his first game in charge but has struggled to find consistency in results, with Barrow AFC and AFC Wimbledon being his only back-to-back wins during his tenure.
That record gives him a 23.5 per cent win ratio during his time in charge this season, worse than John Sheridan, and only better than Jimmy Quinn, Jody Morris, Colin Todd, Les Allen, John Gorman, and Paul Hart among permanent Town bosses.
Despite this and with Swindon having confirmed their worst-ever league finish after defeat to Grimsby Town last weekend, Gunning still feels that he is worthy of being given the job.
The interim head coach believes that his work in changing the style of play of the team and the general performance levels in his time in charge makes him a worthy candidate.
He said: “We won three out of four games and stemmed it and then I have had to look at stuff going forward, I think.
“It is a squad that I inherited and I think you need a pre-season as a coach to get your own ideas across and your own team.
“I think [I have made my case], performances have been good, we have come to Grimsby and dominated, we probably had about 65 per cent possession but we were blunt in front of goal.
“Performances are key and that is what I have shown.
“We are delivering a different style of football now, we have got our midfielders back and shown we can dominate the game.”
It is currently unclear what the plan will be for the next head coach of Swindon, with owner Clem Morfuni and head of football Jamie Russell having both said Gunning would be given until the end of the season before a decision was taken over a permanent replacement for Flynn.
Former Bradford and Plymouth Argyle manager Derek Adams was spotted at the County Ground during their last home game against Wimbledon, but as yet there has been no further update on whether he is in contention for the role.
