Swindon Town captain Charlie Austin is the headline departure as the club have announced their retained list for the 2023/24 season this morning.
The 34-year-old netted 23 goals during his 18-month second spell, adding to the 37 that he scored during his previous spell, with the club where he began his professional career in 2009 but will depart at the end of the current campaign.
Speaking to club media after what proved to be his last game, Austin said: “Thank you very much for the last 18 months. I know it hasn’t been great, but the way you have treated myself and my family, I really do appreciate it.
“My performances sometimes have been ok, some have been below par, but trust me, I really appreciate your [the fans’] support.
“What you did for me at the end of the game, I will always cherish that.”
Austin is one of 11 players who will depart the club, alongside former Player of the Season Frazer Blake-Tracy, who announced his own departure following the game against Morecambe, and George McEachran, Tyrese Shade, and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy who all made more than 50 appearances for the club.
The other first team players to depart at the end of this campaign are Tomi Adeloye, Conor Brann, Tom Brewitt, Tom Clayton, Reece Devine and Brooklyn Genesini.
Swindon have announced that they have exercised the options in the contracts of goalkeeper Jack Bycroft, defenders Udoka Godwin-Malife, Williams Kokolo, midfielder Saidou Khan, and forward Paul Glatzel to extend their deals for another year.
Sean McGurk, who arrived at the club in January alongside Bycroft and Glatzel, is currently in discussions with the club over a new contract along with Nnamdi Ofoborh.
The players who were already under contract for next season and will remain with the club are: Ricky Aguiar, Jake Cain, Aaron Drinan, Anton Dworzak, Pharrell Johnson, Harrison Minturn and Tariq Uwakwe.
In addition, loan players Dawson Devoy, Conor McCarthy, Zac Elbouzedi, and another former Player of the Season Harry McKirdy have all returned to their parent clubs following the expiry of their deals.
Town said in a brief statement on their website: “We would like to thank all the first-team players who will be leaving us upon the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, and we wish them all the very best in their future careers too.”
