Swindon Town are yet to become active in the transfer market, but many of their League Two rivals have wasted no time in getting business done.
Bradford City have made a statement of intent to begin the off-season as they have brought in two members of Stockport County’s title-winning squad from last season to try and move themselves closer to the promotion conversation than they were for much of the previous campaign.
Antoni Sarcevic, who has won promotion in four of his last five seasons at three different clubs, turned down a contract extension from the Hatters to have another crack at the fourth tier with the Bantams.
Neil Byrne is another to have turned down the chance of League One football to move to Valley Parade. The defender only made 16 appearances for Stockport last season but brings more winning experience to Bradford.
Newly promoted Chesterfield have also wasted no time in borrowing from the title winners as they added Paddy Madden to be yet another source of goals for the Spireites. He has not been their only addition as Timmy Akinola has returned to England having spent the last year in Qatar with Al Bidda and Kane Drummond is another attacking option to arrive from Macclesfield.
Another eye-catching move has been Aaron Hayden returning to Carlisle United after departing Wrexham AFC at the end of the season. The 27-year-old dropped out of the Football League to join the Disney project at SToK Cae Ras in 2021 and has been a big part of the side that won back-to-back promotions and will hope to bring that mentality to a Carlisle side that will be looking to bounce straight back to League One with their new owners.
The relegated sides have already begun work on getting back to the third tier as Port Vale have brought in former Portsmouth winger and AFC Wimbledon’s derby day hero, Ronan Curtis.
Doncaster Rovers have gotten over their playoff heartbreak by continuing to bolster their squad with Solihull Moor’s highly-rated midfielder Joe Sbarra.
Matty Stevens has joined AFC Wimbledon following his departure from Forest Green Rovers. The striker has struggled since his injury at the end of 2021/22 but did net 23 times during the Nailsworth club’s title-winning season.
Other early moves around the league have seen goalkeeper Michael Kelly, Kelsey Mooney and Tyler Walter join Accrington Stanley, Barrow have picked up Wyll Stanway from Chester City, and Salford City added Robbie Cleary.
