Seven different Swindon Harriers athletes clocked new personal best times as they hit their stride in the athletics season.
There were many different races across the weekend as the Swindon runners looked to continue their fine seasons, and there was lots of new personal benchmarks set.
Anubis Molina-Zekri opted for the British Milers Club PB Classic at Millfield School, Somerset and smashed his personal best in the 3000 metres.
Molina-Zekri carved over 24 seconds off his 2023 best as he crashed through the nine-minute barrier for the first time, improving from 9:21.19 to 8:56.4.
That time is good enough to lift Anubis up to fourth in the South West Rankings and he becomes the second fastest at that distance in Wiltshire.
In the 800 metres training partners Charissa Griffiths-Clack and Pippa Wall, who are both in Debbie Gunning and Jon Hughes’ coaching group, were also in personal best form at Millfield as the pair both put in rapid times.
Griffiths-Clack sliced four seconds off her personal best to clock 2:30.25 to go second in the South West under-13s Rankings while in her first season as an under-13 Wall made a big leap forward progressing with 2:38.66 to go 11th in the South West and second fastest in Wiltshire behind her clubmate.
Also in the 800 metres, there were personal bests for Ben Charlesworth, who slashed six seconds off his best with 2:10.52 and Arthur Pearson with 2:12.70.
In the 800-metre C race, Al Virgilio ran a season’s best of 2:01.5 while in the mixed 1500-metre races Ella Spencer and Ellie Charlesworth, returning after illness, clocked times of 4:52.9 and 5:28.1 respectively.
Up at Loughborough, Nathan Hackley improved his 800-metre personal best for the third time this year clocking a swift 1:56.86 for second place in the A race.
Amelia Brandon notched up a personal best of 27.25 in the 200 metres and also won the 100-metre hurdles in 15.59.
Racing in the Yeovil Open meeting M35 veteran Paul Bonner ran a personal best of 4:49.03 in the 1500 metres and teenager Thea Scobey clocked 2:46.05 in the 800 metres.
Teenager Ben Charlesworth celebrated his debut over 10k on the road at the Hogweed Trot by winning the under-18s prize in a time of 39 minutes and 39 seconds.
Finally, Teresa Iannetelli has signed Higher Claim qualification forms for National League newcomers Yate AC and she ran a season’s best of 58.04 for second place in the 400 metres at Swansea.
