Charlie Austin has sparked rumours that he could be joining former Swindon Town boss Michael Flynn at Cheltenham Town with a post on social media.

The 34-year-old left Swindon at the end of last season, a decision Austin told The Adver that he was never formally informed about prior to the retained list being announced.

Austin thrived under Flynn in the first half of last season and the Welshman has just got a new job as he joined Cheltenham last week following their relegation to League Two.

The striker posted a photo of the pair together whilst on holiday on social media, sparking speculation that Austin could be set to follow Flynn to The Completely-Suzuki Stadium.

Former Swindon loanee Franck Nouble replied to the post with a GIF that said “interesting” and many other fans welcomed Austin to Cheltenham, believing the photo could be more than a chance encounter.

Austin has said that he does not plan to retire following his departure from Swindon and is currently in discussions with clubs about a potential move.

Speaking to The Adver in May, Austin said of Flynn: “Then came Flynny – and I liked Michael, he was good for the football club, but we couldn’t get off the losing train for a long period of time.

“At that time, all of a sudden, a lot of people had a lot to say, when they hadn’t batted an eyelid in the previous 10 games. There were opinions not brought to Flynny at the time, but people were happy to do it in their own little groups, passing the buck.

“Then Flynn goes and I’m thinking ‘What’s going on here?’ because these changes were starting to happen a little too often, there was definitely too much changing of manager and too much changing of players in the squad.”

Speaking to club media upon his arrival in Gloucestershire, Flynn said that he was looking to get recruitment done quickly to bring in his players.

He said: “We are already starting conversations and trying to get some players over the line as soon as possible because when we come back for the start of pre-season, we want the group to bond as quickly as possible.

"We have got to get the recruitment right, we will discuss it together and go through it and we will do our due diligence to make sure we get the right characters to represent this football club.”
