Swindon Harriers will have 31 athletes representing their counties this weekend at the South West School Track & Field Championships.
Jonathan Dumbutshena, Lucy Bull, and Holly Scott will be spearheading the Harriers’ challenge as they will be hoping for success in the Wiltshire team at Exeter Arena on Saturday, with the group of Lucy Bull, Katie New, Ella Spencer, Fletcher Hart, and Billy Dickinson also turning out for Gloucestershire.
Dumbutshena will contest the inter boys 100 metres and 200 metres events after his double gold success in the Wiltshire Championships in Swindon last weekend.
Bull was in action in Gloucester at the Gloucestershire Championships and her personal best throw of 41.19 metres puts her second in the UK Rankings and number one in the west country.
Both will be expecting to win more medals this weekend as will Scott, who tackles the inter girls’ hammer when she will be up against her great Devon rival Tegan Brown.
Abigail Hackley doubles up in the senior girls 200 metres and 400 metres while Kalina Karacheva goes in the inters 300 metres and high jump.
The club has two representatives in three junior girls events; the 800 metres (Elsie Scrase and Freya McMeeking), hammer (Lottie Harding and Evie Wilkins) and the pole vault (Ellie Pyper and Esha Bhalerao).
Likewise in the junior boys clubmates Jesse Bryant and Alex Leak will race the 800 metres and Finley Byrne and James Mayneord tackle the 1500-metre race.
The Wiltshire squad will also feature Meredith Prosser, Abigail Hackley, Mayah Trybala-Legumbe, Alex Williams, Al Virgilio, Anubis Molina-Zekri, Arthur Widdows, Arthur Kinneir, Ted Hiscock, Jayden Dix, Ben Hanes, Jesse Bryant, Alex Leak, Finley Byrne, James Mayneord, and Elliot Cox from the Harriers.
Elsewhere for the club, in the second match of the Wessex Young Athletes League on Sunday the Harriers stormed to a thumping victory scoring 644 points to maintain their unbeaten start and they were a massive 267.5 points clear of second-place Waverley AC.
Furthermore, the team won every single of the six age group competitions comprising under-17, under-15 and under-13 boys and girls as they dominated the competition in a splendid day across all of the teams for the Harriers.
And to round off a memorable day the under-11 youngsters under the leadership of Steve Sparkes also enjoyed a superb win scoring a massive 1,784 points to extend their unbeaten start to the league season.
