Swindon Cricket Club First XI are looking to push on and find some momentum following a mixed start to the season.
Seven weeks into the WEPL Wiltshire season and Swindon sit seventh in the table, having initially begun the campaign with three defeats against sides towards the top of the table, their form has improved, winning two of their next three.
Vice-captain Keron Bennett-Thomas believes that the team is starting to find their feet and can use the big win over Marlborough as a springboard.
He said: “It has been a bit of a mixed bag so far, but things are looking a bit more positive and we are hoping things can stay that way and keep going up and up.
“If we can test ourselves against Purton then we can show where we really are as a team, where we haven’t really done that so far this season.
“Against Marlborough, we set ourselves off to a really good start and the partnership between Dan [Rafiq] and Finlay [Hobson] was brilliant.
“We haven’t really had that this season, when we have that platform and haven’t been having to drag the game back then we have done really well.
“That result could be the catalyst for our season, getting that momentum has given us a really positive attitude in training and that is what we needed.
“We were bottom of the league and now we are seventh and another win can push us even higher.
“WEPL Wiltshire is a bloodbath, anyone can beat anyone, so stringing a couple of wins together is just what we need.”
This season has been characterised across the club with young talent coming through and Bennett-Thomas said that their continued progress should see Swindon keep getting better as the season goes on.
He said: “We have a young side when we get players back from schools and exams, so it is about getting them experience.
“I think if they can help us win games then we can finish in the top half and anything above that would be great.
“We have some brilliant young players like Dan and Charlie [Hallsworth] and when we can get everyone back then we can really look to kick on and show everyone what they have got.
“I think that if we can finish in that top half and consolidate ourselves after the start that we had then that will be something to be proud of.”
