Swindon Town were beaten in a behind-closed-doors friendly with Swansea City on Saturday.

Mark Kennedy's side travelled to Fairwood in Swansea for a 3pm kick-off but although youngster Jaxon Brown got himself on the scoresheet, the Championship side ran out 3-1 winners.

Pharrell Johnson, Will Wright, Nnamdi Ofoborh, Ollie Clarke, Paul Glatzel, Harry Smith, Rosaire Longelo and Jake Cain all featured in the starting line-up alongside three trialists.

Jack Bycroft, Tunmise Sobowale, Saidou Khan, Dylan Mitchell, Aaron Drinan, Anton Dworzak, Harrison Minturn, Joel McGregor, Brown and Redman Evans were on the subs bench, alongside three more trialists.

Town finished the first half 2-0 down courtesy of goals from Liam Cullen in the 14th minute, and a 38-minute penalty from Matt Grimes.

Brown, who had just signed his first pro deal with Swindon, was one of 10 players who came on at the break and clawed a goal back with a finish into the top corner.

But Ukrainian Mykola Kuharevich scored Swansea's third in the 71st minute to see out the game.

Assistant head coach Marcus Bignot spoke about the strong challenge of the Championship side before the game, hoping that it would help him and his staff instil a love for the defensive side of the game in the squad

He said: "If we lose [the match] then it must remain behind closed doors and nobody will mention the score and if we win then we will open up the doors and tell everybody that we are three out of three.

“It is going to be a different game to the two we have had so far, these two have been very good in terms of what we have got out of them and there has been a lot of variety.

“This game will have to be a really good out-of-possession performance and I believe that we are going to suffer.

“I hope that the boys enjoy suffering and then when we get our moments, I hope that the boys capitalise."

Swindon went into the game having won their previous two pre-season friendlies against local sides.

On July 6, Town coasted to a decent 4-1 victory over Swindon Supermarine, before defeating Hungerford Town 2-0 last Tuesday night.

A trip to Melksham Town awaits before friendlies with Highworth Town, Eastleigh and Wycombe Wanderers ahead of the club's first League Two game away to Chesterfield on Friday, August 9.
