Former Swindon Town analyst Liam McCartan has joined FC Midtjylland in Denmark after leaving the club earlier this summer.
McCartan spent two seasons with Swindon, initially joining as a Lead Performance Analyst under Scott Lindsey before becoming a First Team Coach Analyst last summer under Michael Flynn.
He would also go on to serve as a key member in Gavin Gunning’s backroom staff, as he was handed greater responsibility within the coaching set-up prior to the arrival of Jimmy Shan at the end of March.
Having opted to depart at the end of last season, the coach has now headed across to the Danish champions in time for the beginning of their season, which commenced with a 1-1 draw against AGF on Friday and their Champions League second-qualifying round tie with UE Santa Coloma of Andorra.
Writing on LinkedIn, McCartan said: “After a very busy off-season preparing to start a new role with Bristol Rovers as Head analyst. An opportunity to join FC Midtjylland as lead analyst was too big an opportunity to turn down.
“I am proud and excited to join this incredible club. After only one week having sampled the incredible atmosphere within the club, the Danish Super Liga and the Champions League group qualifier. I am looking forward to embracing a new country and helping the club to success.”
The 27-year-old has enjoyed an exciting year which has also seen him assist as a match analyst for the Republic of Ireland Under-21 side for the first time for their European Championship qualifier against San Marino in March.
The move comes as something of a U-turn from McCartan as he had been announced by Bristol Rovers as their new Head Analyst to work under Matt Taylor at the start of July, however, he has now opted to take the move to the Danish champions.
