Swindon Town trialist John Bostock has joined Solihull Moors after spending time with Mark Kennedy’s side during pre-season.

Bostock, who had two loan spells at Swindon under Paolo Di Canio, had been under consideration at Swindon this summer after departing Notts County at the end of last season.

It had been confirmed that Bostock was training with Swindon and played in the friendly against Southampton under-21s as the pair evaluated each other as to whether it was the right fit.

However, Bostock chose to join Solihull Moors of the National League, citing geographical reasons with his family as being a major deciding factor behind his choosing to drop down a level.

The midfielder said to club media upon signing for Solihull: “I’m very pleased, it’s been a process coming to this decision but one I’m very grateful for and I’m pleased to get the season underway.

“It was really important where the club was situated as a family man they’re my priority.”

Swindon have been searching for a creative midfielder this summer and believe they are close to making an addition in that area, however, Marcus Bignot said that Bostock had been a player they felt fit what they were looking for.

He said: “I think that anybody who knows John and knows football knows the type of footballer that he is and that is the kind of profile we are looking for in a certain area of the football pitch.

“That didn’t come off in terms of that profile and that person in particular.”

Swindon are yet to sign any of the trialists they have had with them in pre-season, with Jai Rowe having returned to Boston United after not earning a deal and Will Randall was no longer with the squad as they visited Eastleigh on Sunday.

Town were down to one trialist for the match at the Silverlake Stadium, with the player playing the first half at left wing-back in a mixed display.

Bignot said of where Swindon are with trialists: “We might still look at one or two but not like at the beginning of pre-season, certainly not those numbers.

“It may be a case of we monitor a player who we are looking to bring in and it can be that we can look at him and he can look at us.

“Certainly trialists will be down in terms of numbers but I wouldn’t rule it [having them in] out either.”
