Football finance expert Kieran Maguire said that the possibility of a sale of Swindon Town seemed unlikely at present on the Price of Football podcast.

On this week’s episode of the podcast which discusses issues around football business, Maguire spoke about Swindon in response to a question about the ownership of the Nigel Eady County Ground between the club and supporters' trust.

As part of this discussion, the University of Liverpool lecturer also discussed the current possibility of a sale of the club after there have been persistent reports about interested parties in the club and what he had heard of it.

Maguire said that in his knowledge of the situation, he believed that suggestions of a sale were being halted by an asking price that is beyond what he believes feels the club is worth.

He said: “I have had people from prospective ownership groups get in contact with me [about Swindon] to say x, y, and z and I will try to be honest and say ‘These are the state of the finances and this is where they are’ and if I am asked what I think the club is worth then I will give them an answer.

“I know that my numbers are substantially lower than the asking price at present.”

Clem Morfuni has repeatedly knocked back suggestions that he is looking to sell Swindon, most recently speaking to the Adver about it in June.

He said: “If someone can do a better job than me and put financial backing on it then I don’t have an issue and I will look at it.

“I have had offers, I am not denying that, I have had people come to me and say ‘We want to buy your club’ and I say ‘Give me an offer and proof of funds’ and to this day, no one has done that, everyone talks a lot but no one actually does a lot.

“[Has there been a formal offer to buy the club?] No.

"I can come to you and say 'I want to buy your house' and say I will give you £1 million for it, you would probably sell that.

“At the end of the day, I am a businessman; if someone comes up with a number and I can see that they can do a good job then I will look at it, but it needs to fit everything and no one has done that.”
