Marcus Bignot said that Swindon Town still need to add plenty of depth to their squad before the end of the transfer window.

Swindon have signed ten players this window following the arrival of Joel Cotterill on loan from Swansea City, an addition Bignot felt would be important to add further creativity to the squad.

However, despite having been very active in the transfer market, some fans expressed their concern at the quality of the bench that Swindon had when they visited Eastleigh in pre-season on Sunday.

Bignot said that he largely concurred with that view of the squad as it is currently built and he felt there was plenty more to do to get the squad in the place he and Mark Kennedy desire.

He said: “No [that is not all we need], there are other areas [that we want to bring in], so I am glad you haven’t seen that because then we would have problems as you would be doing our job.

“There are certainly other areas of the pitch that we need depth in and there are certain areas where we need starters, people to come in and affect the starting 11.

“It can be a really good day off the back of a really disappointing performance because it highlights where we need to strengthen and where we need to be.

“We are not naïve or anything like that and hopefully you will see signs this week and into next week of added additions in certain areas which we do need.”

Swindon have had a number of trialists in their squad throughout pre-season, although are yet to have made any of them permanent additions.

Bignot said that it remained a possibility that players would be brought in to train with the Swindon squad during their final two weeks of pre-season, but it would be a case of serious interest in a player and using the trial to figure out whether it is the right fit.

He said: “We might still look at one or two but not like at the beginning of pre-season, certainly not those numbers.

“It may be a case of we monitor a player who we are looking to bring in and it can be that we can look at him and he can look at us.

“Certainly trialists will be down in terms of numbers but I wouldn’t rule it [having them in] out either.”
