Swindon Harriers’ talented young athletes plundered a total of 29 medals at the 2024 South West Inter-Counties Track & Field Championships at the Exeter Arena.

Seven of those saw them end on the top step with a gold, 12 were silvers, and there were ten bronzes plus 11 top six places and a smattering of personal bests in yet another very strong weekend for the club’s young athletes.

Lowri Prosser had a very satisfying day winning gold in the under-13 girls' high jump, clearing a personal best of 1.38m and adding silver in the 70-metre hurdles, also in a personal best time of 12.27.

For good measure, Prosser also finished fourth in the 200 metres, which was won by her clubmate Lauren Gassner in a legal personal best of 28.87. Gassner also added bronze in the 100 metres again clocking a personal best of 13.92 so likewise a super day for her too.

Jonathan Dumbutshena is a proven medal winner and he added a gold to his collection by winning the under-17 men’s 100 metres ahead of training partner Emmanuel Daramola, a nice one-two for coach Tony Jackson.

Al Virgilio enjoyed a great weekend. On Saturday he set a personal best of 52.53 in the heats of the under-17s 400 metres at the England Championships and then followed up that the next day with victory in 52.66, defeating the current South West number one Owen Boon of Yate.

Delleah Belgrave was a classy winner of the under-20 women’s long jump and added silver in the 100 metres.

Lottie Harding continued her progress in the under-15s hammer by smashing her personal best by over a meter as she broke 40 metres for the first time with 40.43 metres and then demonstrated her all-round talent with another personal best of 13.17 for third in the 75-metre hurdles.

Also in the under-13s Esha Bhalerao continued her fine development in the pole vault under Howie Gooderham’s guidance as she equalled her personal best of 2.20 metres for victory.

Elsewhere Amelia Brandon won a silver in the senior 100-metre hurdles plus two bronzes in the 100 metres and 200 metres while Teresa Iannetelli was runner-up in the senior 400 metres and third in the 400-metre hurdles.

Pippa Wall ran a personal best for second in the under-13s 800 metres and Jesse Bryant slashed over five seconds from his personal best to finish runner-up in the under-15s 1500 metres.
