Marcus Bignot said that the Swindon Town players showed that they will fight for the shirt in their 1-0 victory over Wycombe Wanderers.

Swindon finished their pre-season by taking on League One Wycombe at the Nigel Eady County Ground and the team displayed their defensive capabilities as they were made to work for their victory.

Jack Bycroft pulled off a string of good saves to keep Town level before Ollie Clarke slammed home the winning goal from a tight angle to see Swindon round off pre-season with a win.

Bignot said that he was very pleased with how all of his players had played as they showed their willingness to fight for the cause heading into the season.

He said: "I am sure that the 2,000-odd fans who were here today would have been pleased with what they saw against a very good League One outfit who have had an outstanding pre-season, they have got results against Premier League and Championship teams.

"For us to come away from that with a 1-0 win, the result and the performance we can only be happy with and it sets us up really nicely going into Chesterfield.

"We certainly had moments on the ball in the first half with what we are trying to do, it is really difficult against that type of opposition to dominate the ball but we certainly had moments and there were patterns of play which we have worked on.

"In the second half they got on top and supporters would have seen our resilience, how hard we are to beat and our shape was really good in the second half.

"We had to suffer, we survived it and supporters can go away tonight knowing that every person is playing for the shirt and playing for that badge."

Swindon had a difficult day last week in defeat at Eastleigh but managed to bounce straight back with a victory over higher-league opposition.

Bignot said that the win and the preparation for the game stands the side in good stead heading into the game at Chesterfield on Friday.

He said: "It has been a demanding pre-season, it wasn't ideal in terms of the games programme, the lead up to Eastleigh wasn't ideal, it was unique and we are never going to face that build-up of playing on the Friday and then your next game is on the Sunday.

"It was really good for the boys to bounce back from Eastleigh, which we all said was a disappointing result and performance but when we looked back at it and reviewed it, it is never as bad as you think.

"We have made a couple of signings since then and I thought that all of them to a man today could be happy with their performances.

"It was really important that all three [strikers] got minutes today because they are very important to us and now all three getting ready for Chesterfield are in a really good place mentally and physically."
