Swindon Town are looking to complete at least one or two more signings prior to the start of the League Two season against Chesterfield.

Town have completed ten signings already this summer, with Joel Cotterill on loan from Swansea City being the latest, but they are still keen to continue adding to the squad.

Speaking before the match, Jamie Russell said that he would be looking for “hopefully two or three” more signings this window.

Following the 1-0 victory over Wycombe Wanderers, Marcus Bignot said that he was looking for the club to make more additions before the season gets underway at Chesterfield on Friday night.

He said: “As a technical staff we will always want more [news players] but he [Russell] will probably be talking about it in terms of impacting us.

“If you saw the 18 today because we picked a matchday squad, there are certain areas where we need to bring more depth in and in certain positions we will probably need players who can impact the first 11.

“Certainly there is still a little more work to be done, we did a lot of work at the beginning of the window and I am sure the supporters will be happy with the work we did nice and early, but then what happens is the supporters think every week there is going to be a signing and it is not as simple as that.

“I would anticipate that there could be one or maybe two more prior to Chesterfield and let’s not forget that the window doesn’t close until August 31.

“There is a lot of work to be done, but we have had really encouraging signs.”

Swindon had two players on trial for their final friendly against Wycombe hoping to be one of those signings prior, one was former Chesterfield full-back Jeff King along with another trialist who has been with Town throughout the whole of pre-season.

King has just the one EFL appearance to his name but has twice been named in the National League Team of the Season before being part of a promotion-winning Chesterfield squad last year.

Speaking of King’s performance, Bignot said: “You saw a performance out there from Trialist A and I thought he did well, I was really pleased with him.

“His character, the person, he has fitted in really well and in his first competitive minutes, I think that we would all agree that he hasn’t done badly.”
