Swindon Town are hoping the transfer game of dominos will soon fall to let them bring in another goalkeeper to challenge Jack Bycroft.

After arriving from Southampton in January, Bycroft has hit the ground running as the number one for his boyhood club, starting every game since his arrival from the south coast club.

However, Town have made no secret about their pursuit of another option between the sticks to challenge him, taking three goalkeepers in on trial during their first three friendlies to see what they could offer.

Marcus Bignot has previously said that the search for a goalkeeper has continued even since they left the group and after Wycombe said that he felt the waiting game could soon be over.

He said: “I am sure we are close [to another goalkeeper]. What you have to remember about recruitment is that there are a lot of plates spinning.

“Especially in the Premier League and Championship, a lot of their players are still not in pre-season, so they have got to use their squad and their under-21s, etcetera until they return.

“We are pleased we got Joel [Cotterill] as early as we did, we wanted him in earlier but he had to go away with Swansea [City] on a pre-season tour and we had to wait until he came back.

“That will be the same in that situation [with the goalkeeper], so we are just waiting on clubs to return, people to come back, and then hopefully there will be a few more movements.”

Redman Evans would currently enter the season as Swindon’s backup goalkeeper unless there was to be movement in the transfer market ahead of Friday’s season opener against Chesterfield.

The academy product is highly thought of by the club, but Mark Kennedy has previously discussed how they would make a decision on what to do with him based on what is best for his development and that could involve time spent out on loan.

Max Harris, Rohan Luthra, and Max Boruc were the three goalkeepers who featured in friendlies for Town this summer, and links connecting Swindon with the Hibernian stopper have persisted even after he returned to Easter Road to provide depth in that department following Jojo Wollacott’s move to join Scott Lindsey at Crawley Town.

Boruc had been looking for more playing time last season and was not in the squad for Hibs’ first league game against St Mirren nor their League Cup win over Peterhead.
