Mark Kennedy admitted that Swindon Town have made an attempt to sign Peterborough United striker Kabongo Tshimanga.

The 27-year-old has not had the best time since making his move to London Road 18 months ago, failing to score in 13 appearances before struggling again with Fleetwood Town on loan last season, drawing a blank in 14 League One appearances.

Tshimanga has proved to be lethal in the National League, however, scoring 74 goals in the fifth tier and bouncing straight back from his tough spell last season by netting seven in 16 whilst on loan at Boreham Wood, who have since been relegated, down the stretch last season.

The striker was made available for transfer with a year remaining on his contract in May and Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony admitted on his podcast last week that there had been approaches from two National League clubs and one in League Two, although their offer was some way short of Posh’s valuation.

The Adver are aware of Town’s interest in the striker and Transfer Insider’s Pete O’Rourke has said that the club are pursuing a loan move for him.

Kennedy was asked about the potential of bringing in Tshimanga and he admitted that it is a deal that Swindon would like to get done, although he did not indicate the likelihood of anything happening.

He said: “We would love to have him. We would like to bring him in if we could, I don’t see the point in hiding that.

“I would imagine that we are one of a load of people looking at him, he has a great goalscoring record and people have paid a lot of money for him.

“I am not sure what has gone on there, it is none of my business, and like all good strikers, if someone like him is available then we are 100 per cent in for him. He is somebody that we really like.”

Swindon are continuing to pursue moves for other targets, as aside from looking for another striker they remain interested in a move for a goalkeeper and a midfielder to bolster the squad before the window closes at the end of August.

Jamie Russell continues to work on an almost complete squad overhaul after 18 members of the squad that finished last season at the Nigel Eady County Ground have departed, with 12 signings having come in this summer to reshape the squad for new head coach Kennedy.
