Mark Kennedy said that he retains total confidence in Jack Bycroft despite the goalkeeper’s early errors against Chesterfield and Crawley Town.
The 22-year-old would again have been disappointed by some of the goals Swindon conceded during their 4-2 Carabao Cup first-round exit at League One Crawley.
Ade Adeyemo fired home at the near post in the first half before Jack Roles struck a wonderful strike into the top corner to send Crawley two goals up. After Swindon had got back onto level terms and were looking the team more likely to win the game, Roles again curled home from outside the box and then Rafiq Khaleel drilled home the fourth with the game stretched as Town looked to salvage the cup tie for the second time.
With fans questioning whether his position as the number one should be in jeopardy, Kennedy was sure to say that Bycroft continues to have his full faith and is not under any pressure.
He said: “[Are you concerned at all?] No, I have got no concerns about Jack. He is an outstanding talent, a brilliant pro, and an excellent ‘keeper.
“One of his biggest qualities is shot stopping and he has great feet for a ‘keeper.
“For people that don’t know, we have got a lot of people asking us about Jack, I have had multiple phone calls from people about Jack and you need to worry when you are not getting phone calls.
“I think that we have got an outstanding talent on our hands.”
Swindon have been looking to add another goalkeeper this summer but speaking ahead of the game, Kennedy said that this was more for the benefit of Redman Evans than to replace Bycroft.
He said: “Yes we would still like to bring somebody in and going back to the recruitment, we have worked really hard on that and it is trying to get something and dot the Is and cross the Ts. In an ideal world that is what we would like to do.
“It is important for Redman’s development because we think highly of him and he needs a games programme.
“It looks great on paper sitting on the bench in League Two all year and doing great but I think that you will end up having an underdeveloped player.
“It is so important, especially with a goalkeeper, that we make sure that he has got a games programme because he is such a talented player.”
