Mark Kennedy said that his Swindon Town team remain a project despite being pleased with how they have played in their opening two matches.
Town drew their opening game at Chesterfield on Friday night before contesting a topsy-turvy match at Crawley Town as they exited the Carabao Cup.
Speaking after the game, Kennedy said that he still felt like he was continuing to build his team and get them to where he wants them to be despite being pleased with the early performances.
He said: “You have to focus on the game and you have to see the game as a whole.
“We have got 46 league games this year and when I look at the season, and please God I am still here at the end of the year, in my head it is one game with the 46 little bits in between, they are like little sub pieces of the game.
“We are not here to build a team for the first cup game of the season, it is going to take a long time but what I am seeing so far is really good.
“I will look at the season as a whole and what we are trying to build and make sure in a year the club is in a much stronger position today and today we are in a really good position.”
The Crawley game saw Kennedy make three changes from the season opener and hand a debut to Dylan Mitchell off the bench and he was pleased with what he saw from those switches.
He said: “Playing Tunmise [Sobowale] right-sided centre half was a big call, it was something I wanted to look at from pre-season because he is an outstanding athlete, physically strong, and very quick, so I think that position could suit him.
“Jake Cain is a really intelligent footballer and did really well in there, he caused them lots of problems from a tactical aspect.
“Naturally you are judged on goals, assists, key passes, and execution in key moments but Jake is a player I would know as an opposition manager would cause me problems.
“It was great to get Glatz on the pitch, he could have had a hat-trick on another night but what is important is he gets into the positions and we know he scores goals.
“I was pleased for Dylan making his debut and he looked like a first-team player, we have no problem putting him in there.”
