Nnamdi Ofoborh said that he feels very good physically after going through his first pre-season since he was with Bournemouth in 2020.
The midfielder has started both of Swindon Town’s games so far, although was substituted in each during the second half, and scored his first Swindon goal against Crawley Town.
Ofoborh had spent three years away from football due to a heart condition and he said that he enjoyed finally having a proper pre-season and feeling fit leading into this campaign.
He said: “I did it a lot when I was younger [playing further forwards], but obviously being out for three years takes a lot out of your career physically.
“Now I am getting back to the physical level that I want to and the manager and staff want me to be at, so I feel like I can produce wherever they ask me to, whether that is in defence, in the six, or in the eight, I just do what I am told.
“This was my first pre-season in a very long time, so that was a little bit different to me because I am not used to that type of training.
“The coaching staff, the sports scientists, and the physios have been managing me very well and as you can see on the pitch, I don’t feel out of step or out of place.
“I feel like I have got a couple more gears to go, so hopefully I can keep progressing and I can get to that level that I want to be at.”
Town have started their season with a pair of away games and evening kick-offs, facing Chesterfield at the SMH Group Stadium on Friday night before their Tuesday night trip to Crawley in the Carabao Cup.
They will play their first home game of the season against Walsall this Saturday and Ofoborh said that he wants to use that home crowd energy to spur the players on.
He said: “I have said it before and I said it in the changing room earlier that the fans in these last two games have been amazing.
“Coming all the way to Chesterfield and even Crawley is a bit of a trip for them and we are so grateful and we feel that energy on the pitch.
“Then hopefully at home with a lot more of them, we can give them something to really cheer about and something to go home happy about.”
