Ollie Clarke said that Swindon Town did not respond well enough to conceding in their 4-0 home loss to Walsall.
It was a dismal start to Swindon's season in front of their own fans as goals from Josh Gordon and Jamille Matt before the break and Taylor Allen and Albert Adomah in the second period sent the home crowd home bitterly disappointed.
Clarke said that Swindon allowed conceding goals to impact them too much during their defeat at the Nigel Eady County Ground.
He said: "We just made little errors that got punished today, which is obviously disappointing, but I felt that at 0-0 we were right in the game and we were figuring out how they played.
"We knew that they were going to be a threat with Jamille Matt up front and we were nullifying him up until they went 1-0 up and then they got a quickfire second and it hit us for six.
"You speak at half time and say don't come out and concede again and then it is a little mix-up between Ros[aire Longelo], Miguel [Freckleton], and myself and then he has bent one in the top corner from the free kick.
"As captain you try and keep everyone together, keep their heads, and try and not concede again but we did and we need to be a bit more resilient.
"The first one hit us for six and then they scored the second and it is like 'We need to get together here' and we did at half time, we changed shape and thought we could cause them some problems but they scored the third and then it is dead and buried."
This was Town's first competitive game in front of their own supporters and Clarke was frustrated the team couldn't show what they are really capable of.
He said: "In the first home league match you want to go out there and show everyone why you have been brought to the club and what you are going to be about.
"How everyone perceives you after that is going to be a bit less optimistic if they come and see that.
"But don't get me wrong, we know that we can show a lot better than that because we are capable of a lot better than that.
"Stick with us, it is obviously frustrating but we know that we can improve on that and hopefully we will learn quickly and start getting the results."
