Swindon Town were drubbed 4-0 in their first home game of the season against early pace-setters Walsall in League Two.

Josh Gordon capitalised on a mistake from Grant Hall, Jamille Matt nodded home, Taylor Allen struck a magnificent free kick, and Albert Adomah turned home at the near post to see Swindon thoroughly embarrassed on their own turf.

So, how did the players fare as individuals at the Nigel Eady County Ground?

GK: Jack Bycroft – 6

This could have been even more ugly were it not for three inspired saves from Bycroft. In the previous two games, Swindon have been able to limit efforts on goal but this was far from the case here with Walsall getting chances at will and Bycroft did well to limit the damage as much as he did.

RCB: Will Wright – 3

I don’t recall him being personally culpable for many of the defensive mistakes but his on-ball performance was notably worse this afternoon. There were many overhit balls and he was too early to play long throughout.

CB: Grant Hall – 2

I genuinely don’t know how he did that for the first goal. It felt like something 2013 Hall might have done not the Championship veteran that was supposed to be returning.

LCB: Miguel Freckleton – 3

Freckleton along with Hall struggled to cope with Gordon and Matt throughout the game, with them able to beat him in the air and also run in behind him. He also had the jitters with the ball like Wright and was constantly looking long when it was not necessary.

RWB: Jeff King – 3

I can’t remember him having any impact in possession, he never drove upfield or put in a dangerous cross. Defensively he definitely came up second-best against Allen with the second goal being especially disappointing.

CM: Nnamdi Ofoborh – 2

The point of having Ofoborh playing in a more advanced role is to have that bite higher up the pitch but he simply didn’t offer any. The middle of the team simply went missing and didn’t put up the fight that this team is supposed to be based on.

CDM: Joel Cotterill – 4

Cotterill scores a bit higher because I thought he played pretty well in the first 20 minutes. He was the only one looking positive and sharp with the ball at their feet.

CM: Ollie Clarke – 2

It is essentially the same critique as Ofoborh as neither offered anything with the ball and were too easy to play through without it. In case it is not clear, neither of those are positive.

LWB: Rosaire Longelo - 3

The left side was a minute bit more threatening as the few attacks tended to come down that side but a bit like Chesterfield, Longelo did not get on the ball enough for someone who can be dangerous.

ST: Paul Glatzel – 3

There was really no hope for him to get much going as the ball simply didn’t come near him enough but he seems a bit rusty early in this season. His passing is not as sharp and he has struggled to be creative in the way that he was last year.

ST: Harry Smith – 5

It was a tough slog for Smith out there having the ball punted at his head roughly 80 times throughout the game. His success rate was not ideal as they were aimless but his header and shot were also the only times Swindon looked to have any chance of scoring.

Subs:

Aaron Drinan – 3

He simply made no impact. His substitution became irrelevant in the grand scheme of things after four minutes but he once again didn’t look at all like scoring nor did his introduction yield any kind of upturn.

Tunmise Sobowale – 4

His mercurial ability to drive with the ball did produce one or two moments of promise even though it never really came to anything in the end.

Jake Cain – 3

It was tough for him to come on at 4-0 down but a bit like Drinan, he simply made no impression on the game.

Dylan Mitchell – N/A
