Swindon Town have agreed a deal to take Peterborough United striker Kabongo Tshimanga on a loan deal until the end of the season, the Adver understands.

Having chased a deal to sign Tshimanga over the last few weeks, Town have managed to reach an agreement with Posh to sign the striker until the end of the campaign and he is set to complete his move to the Nigel Eady County Ground early next week, according to a source with knowledge of the deal.

Swindon have been in negotiations over recent weeks, with Darragh MacAnthony having been public that they had not been able to match his expectations for the proportion of wages that would convince Peterborough to let him go out, however, they have now been able to breach that divide and agree to terms.

Tshimanga was made available for transfer by Peterborough at the start of the summer after he struggled to cement a place in the first team at London Road after his permanent arrival last year.

There had been interest in the striker from two Non-League sides this summer as well as from Partick Thistle in the Scottish Championship, although, according to MacAnthony, Tshimanga favoured a move to League Two and Swindon have been able to meet their demands.

This is the first of multiple deals that Swindon are hoping to complete ahead of next Friday’s transfer deadline, with a goalkeeper and another midfielder remaining on the shopping list in what has already been a busy summer, with this being the 13th signing that Town have been able to complete.

Tshimanga has been included in the National League Team of the Season on three occasions for his performances at Boreham Wood and Chesterfield as he has proven to be a lethal goalscorer in the fifth tier, scoring 74 goals in 141 appearances at that level.

Those performances earned him a move to Peterborough 18 months ago, initially on loan, although he struggled to find his feet at London Road before having his opportunities limited with Fleetwood Town on loan last season.

The Congolese striker was then able to recapture his previous form as he scored seven goals in 16 appearances upon return to Boreham Wood in the second part of 2023/24.

He comes in to add another element to Town’s current striking options, with Harry Smith, Aaron Drinan, and Paul Glatzel all offering different profiles for Mark Kennedy to pick from.
