AFC Bournemouth midfielder Gavin Kilkenny is on Swindon Town’s “wishlist” as they look to add a midfielder in the transfer market.
With the transfer window closing on Friday, Town are looking to get business done quickly to bolster a squad that has struggled to start the League Two season, taking two points and scoring one goal from their opening three matches.
One of the items on their shopping list is another midfielder, with Saidou Khan looking likely to leave after handing in a transfer request, and there having been a problem with creativity so far, they are yet to create a big chance in their three games, according to FotMob.
A name that has been circulating and The Adver area aware of Town having some interest in is Kilkenny, a deep-lying midfielder who has made 15 Championship appearances for Bournemouth, as well as having loan spells with Stoke City, Charlton Athletic, and Fleetwood Town.
Kilkenny is not in the mould of an attacking midfielder that many fans think they should be after, but did show to be an effective player for Fleetwood last season, getting two assists from 15 starts and also showing well statistically for his crossing ability as well as breaking up play through interceptions and recoveries.
The midfielder has also picked up 20 caps for the Republic of Ireland Under-21s having progressed under the guidance of former Town striker Alan Connell in the Bournemouth academy, where he was a teammate of current Town midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh.
Mark Kennedy was asked about potential interest in the 24-year-old following the 0-0 draw with Crewe Alexandra and he said he was a player he was an admirer of.
He said: “I know Gavin because he is from Ireland. I don’t know everyone from Ireland but I do know him.
“Gavin is a good player, I tried to sign him at my previous club and I have a fantastic relationship with his agent.
“I was thinking about you guys beforehand, because I want to be open and honest with you but I don’t want to put myself in a position where I am constantly speaking about individuals.
“I would love the rhetoric to be that we are looking at multiple players and stuff like that.
“I like Gavin and he is on my wishlist but there are multiple things that happen in between.
“In an ideal world, I would like to bring someone like that in.”
