Swindon Town have confirmed the signing of Peterborough United striker Kabongo Tshimanga on a season-long loan deal.

Tshimanga has been included in the National League Team of the Season on three occasions for his performances at Boreham Wood and Chesterfield as he has proven to be a lethal goalscorer in the fifth tier.

Those performances earned him a move to Peterborough 18 months ago, although he struggled to find his feet at London Road before having his opportunities limited with Fleetwood Town on loan last season, he then scored seven goals in 16 appearances upon return to Boreham Wood in the second part of 2023/24.

Tshimanga’s National League goalscoring record is almost unmatched, having scored 74 goals across four full seasons at that level, at his pomp finding the back of the net 24 times in 27 matches for Chesterfield in 2021/22.

Upon signing for the club, he said: “I am buzzing. I have had to wait for a couple of weeks or even longer to get this over the line but I am buzzing that it is and that I am here.

“Everything about the club [attracted me here]. This is my first time visiting the ground and seeing it in person and how big it is.

“I know that the fan base is really big and has demands for what they want from the players and seeing a winning side and that is what I want as a player.

“I want to be challenged and to get success and with them wanting the same things I hope that we can come together and bring that to the football club.

“I am a goalscorer. One of my key attributes is my movement in and around the box and I always have the knack to be in the right areas at the right time."

The striker has represented England C due to his performances in Non-League but is also eligible for the Democratic Republic of Congo, having been born in Kinshasa, as was Rosaire Longelo.

With Harry Smith, Aaron Drinan, and Paul Glatzel as their three other striking options, Town have been searching for a fourth all summer and Mark Kennedy has frequently remarked upon the embarrassment of riches Town have in that area.

Whilst he naturally lines up as a striker, Tshimanga has also proved himself to be a versatile attacking weapon who is capable of playing on either wing or as an attacking midfielder behind a main striker.
