AFC Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola revealed that Swindon Town target Gavin Kilkenny is set to depart the club ahead of Transfer Deadline Day.

Swindon have been looking to bring in a midfielder for several weeks to provide more depth and quality to that area of the squad and it was understood last week that the Republic of Ireland youth international had become a priority target in that position.

Mark Kennedy spoke after Town’s 0-0 draw at Crewe Alexandra and revealed that he was a player that he admired and was someone that he wanted to add to his squad.

He said: “I know Gavin because he is from Ireland. I don’t know everyone from Ireland but I do know him.

“Gavin is a good player, I tried to sign him at my previous club and I have a fantastic relationship with his agent.

“I was thinking about you guys beforehand, because I want to be open and honest with you but I don’t want to put myself in a position where I am constantly speaking about individuals.

“I would love the rhetoric to be that we are looking at multiple players and stuff like that.

“I like Gavin and he is on my wishlist but there are multiple things that happen in between. In an ideal world, I would like to bring someone like that in.”

A deal now looks to be imminent for the midfielder as Iraola spoke following Bournemouth’s Carabao Cup exit against West Ham United and discussed potential exits from the club before the end of the window and he revealed that he would be leaving the Vitality Stadium soon.

Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, he said: “I think Gav Kilkenny is going to leave, I don’t know if it is official or not but it is the idea of the club.”

Swindon are presently the only club with known interest in the midfielder and so this would seem to indicate that his arrival at the Nigel Eady County Ground could be imminent as Town attempt to wrap up a few more deals before tomorrow’s deadline.

He will join up with former Bournemouth academy teammate Nnamdi Ofoborh in the midfield department, and as a more deep-lying midfielder, he could free up Joel Cotterill to play in a more advanced role, where Kennedy has previously said he believes he is more natural and was the role expected of him when he signed.
