A League Two SuperComputer has predicted this to be a long season of struggle for Swindon Town after crunching the league’s data.

Following on from Swindon’s worst-ever season in the four-tier structure last campaign and a slow start to this season with two defeats and two draws from the opening four matches across all competitions, Swindon have been projected to swiftly break that club record this season.

Analysts at OLBG have run a League Two SuperComputer to determine who is likely to finish where, based on a probability model based on a team’s current strength (based on factors such as league position and form) and betting market odds.

A simulation is then run 1,000 times to predict the outcome of every fixture, with a league table then constructed as a result with as few anomalies as possible to ensure accuracy.

According to their calculations, Swindon will just about manage to stay up this season but manage to survive in 21st place in League Two, five points above the relegation places.

Newport County were the lucky ones in these simulations as they finished level on points with both of the bottom two clubs but managed to stay up on goal difference above Accrington Stanley and a major surprise in Chesterfield, who were the bookmaker’s favourites heading into the season.

At the other end of the table, Fleetwood Town are predicted to bounce back at the first time of asking under rookie head coach Charlie Adam and win the division, with Milton Keynes Dons and Port Vale following them up in the other automatic promotion places.

Doncaster Rovers will just miss out on automatic promotion and will have to go through the playoffs again after their historic finish to last season, their rivals in the postseason are projected to be Michael Flynn’s Cheltenham Town, Tranmere Rovers, and AFC Wimbledon.

Walsall, who dismantled Swindon in their first home game of the season, will not finish in the top seven by a single point and are joined by Crewe Alexandra and Notts County in narrowly missing out on the playoffs.

Down towards the bottom, despite having high pre-season hopes again under new manager Mark Bonner and a strong collection of former Swindon players in Jonny Williams, Remeao Hutton, and Jacob Wakeling, the SuperComputer has predicted Gillingham to have another poor campaign and finish just one place above Swindon in 20th, with Bromley finishing above them and successfully staying up in their first-ever EFL season.
