A late injection of finance saw Swindon Town bring in five players during the final week of the summer transfer window.

After a slow start to the season, Swindon brought in Kabongo Tshimanga, Gavin Kilkenny, Danny Butterworth, Dan Barden, and George Cox during the final week of the window to attempt to improve the fortunes on the pitch.

Speaking about how he felt about his squad following the narrow defeat to Notts County, Mark Kennedy revealed that it had been a late increase in the budger which enabled them to do that.

He said: “[How do you feel about your squad now?] Really good.

“I think it is important to say a huge thank you to Clem [Morfuni] for supporting us and backing us, and I think he has gone over and beyond in that.

“He has hugely increased the budget from last year and then even when we came to our max he has helped us out again.

“Danny Butterworth, I didn’t think we would be able to get because financially we couldn’t afford it and he has put his hand in his pocket again, and that was so huge.

“Thank you to him and also to Jamie [Russell] and Les [Caffrey] as the Head of Football and Head of Recruitment.

“When I looked around our dressing room before the game, I thought, ‘We have put together a really impressive squad.’”

Cox arriving having left FC Volendam in the summer was the last addition, with the left-back having made over 100 Eredivisie appearances and Kennedy was excited to get him in.

He said: “He’s a very good player. He is left-footed, very technical, a really good crosser of the ball, and has good game understanding, not the biggest but he is quite tough.

“When you look at his career so far, we have got a player with a lot of games under his belt and I admire the fact he has left England to go and play abroad, that says a lot about him as a person.

“We just need a bit of time to get him up to speed, that is my only disappointment, but you have to look long-term, if we wanted the short-term then we would have got somebody else who we had lined up.

“We felt that for the long-term good of the club and the team that we needed to look far ahead and we have got another good player here, for sure.”
