It was debut delight for new signing Jake Brickell as he scored twice to help the Swindon Wildcats to a 4-1 victory against the Telford Tigers.

Player-coach Aaron Nell was “very impressed” with his side's performance and had positive words for the three new players added to his roster in the off-season: saying of his new additions Bricknell, Ryan Wells and Ed Bradley: "They have fit in team very well".

It was a fast start from both sides with Bricknell getting the crowd off their feet early with some strong hits and battles on the boards.

The Wildcats had some early chances on goal with Bradley and Wells having shots saved well by Brad Day in the Tigers' net.

Player-coach Nell nearly got the first goal of the game but his tipped effort bounced off the crossbar keeping it scoreless going into the first interval.

The second period started with a bang as Josh Shaw used his body well and fired a shot towards the net which was initially saved however, Dylan Lipsey followed in the rebound and celebrated towards the Wildcats fans.

The Cats picked up momentum and doubled their lead. Balint Pakozdi dangled past one defenseman and made a lovely dish to Bricknell who tapped it into the empty cage.

Just moments later, Bricknell had another opportunity as he drove towards the net but Day spread wide to close the angle and denied the Canadian his second for now.

The Cats started the third just like they did in the second and after some fantastic battling from Billing in front of the net, the puck bounced to Bricknell who stuffed it through Day to make it three.

The Tigers battled back into the game well and forced Renny Marr to make some great saves. However, captain Scott McKenzie got the Tigers on the board as he fired low past Marr.

The Wildcats then got into some penalty trouble giving the Tigers a five-on-three powerplay. This was a good test for the Cats and they killed the penalties successfully.

With the Tigers pulling the netminder for the extra skater, Sam Godfrey then put the icing on the cake as he scored in the empty net goal for the Cats to secure the victory.

A fantastic start to pre-season for the Cats with the team getting some minutes in the tank. The Cats play the Tigers again on Sunday as they look to make it back-to-back pre-season wins.
